“While Betty Cooper is always the blonde girl next door, the pushover Betty of the 1950s was a different character than the feminist Betty of the 1970s, and different again from the beloved heroine Betty of the 1990s. Veronica Lodge is always a wealthy brunette vixen, but the demanding Veronica of the 1940s was not the crafty Veronica the 1950s or the almost villainous Veronica of the 1980s.”
