I read this more than twenty years ago, after taking it out of the school library, and it stuck in my head. I managed to track it down, armed with nothing more than 'Something's Leap, about automata', and was dithering about buying it for years. I finally sucked it up and paid that penny for a second-hand copy.

It's even better than I remembered, and I'm enjoying it SO MUCH.
