An article in the current issue of The New Yorker on Hopper by Peter Schiedahl, sent me back to a Hopper book or two, including this one on my to-read list. Schiedahl, in his article writes of Hopper that "aloneness is his great theme, symbolizing America: insecure selfhood in a country that is only abstractly a nation." A fitting artist for the now fading stay-at-home phase of the pandemic. Read in 2006, re-reading.
