so far a much better book than the last one. after reading chap 1, I'm a little skeptical about the relevance of this book to my situation. but I think it will broaden my horizons, so I will carry on...

chap 5 - would be interesting to do Financial Ratio and Statement Analysis on FIRST, companies of interest, and investment. but remember the limitations of this method because of brand value, accounting methods, and IP.

read chaps 4&5 on trip to St Louis: chap 4 - competitors probably reveal important info to aid in analysis. but doing this seems potentially very time consuming. it's good to know and study their leaders.

took a little break and am back at it (hopefully). The Growth/Share Portfolio Matrix allows execs to compare different business lines within their company as "star," "problem child," "dog," and something else. doesn't seem applicable to small businesses.

chap 2 was about the limitations of the book, which are good to know. but the list was almost too extensive... almost to the point of questioning why bother reading the rest. but... everything has limitations. carry on.
