Identifying the gene responsible for addiction is extremely difficult, It's not an end at itself, But knowing the location gives an idea of what it does (knockout mice). then we can design biological treatments that counteract these effects (or even strengthen protective genes).
However, Most of the times, Susceptible genes only increase sensitivity to addictive substances, not much to do here.
