I skimmed the Modern Piracy section a bit as it's not really pertinent to my graphic novel research, but ooooooh now we're on "Pirates in Popular Culture" which is EXTREMELY pertinent to my research

Important notes on the cultural impact of treasure island!! worth noting when I finally read my copy for research, but this book pioneered the modern pop cultural image, including the "x marks the spot", and influencing the Errol Flynn and Jack Sparrow interpretations. Worth looking up William Henley as well, LJS's model.
