The men in Congress known as the Radical Republicans had the best interests at heart for the nation and its a travesty that they did not prevail for the freed African Americans. They truly cared about equality. Also Andrew Johnson was a prejudiced President who had a few things in common with another certain prez. “Johnson declared that he, not Congress, represented the will of the people”
