What the fuck is this book 0.o

I think this book wins the award for weirdest legal proceedings.

I have now lost all sense of where this book is going.

This book is somehow simultaneously "so bad it's good" and sort of actually good. It's impressive. Also very weird.

Nevermind, the character was making illegal moves on purpose against his sloshed opponent.

"Haldane moved his king into checkmate on the line with his father's queen, but his father moved a pawn diagonally and blocked the check."

"Haldane moved one back and two over with his castle."

Did this author not know how to play chess, or is this an imagined future where the rules have changed? Could go either way.
