Chapters 56 & 57 - OH GOD MELVILLE WROTE TWO MORE CHAPTERS ABOUT WHALE IMAGES. That is...not acceptable

Chapter 55: Melville describes pictures of whales. This book's title should be Herman Melville: He REALLY Frickin' Loved Whales.

Finally got back to listening to this. It's changing POVs all over the place and there's soliloquies and songs about Spanish ladies and I think Melville forgot there's supposed to be a plot? Someone will one day have to explain to me why this is a classic.

Oh man, now Melville is onto describing ships. I feel like this is less a novel than whaling propaganda.

He is seriously going through an classifying all the whale like this is a goddamn biology textbook. MELVILLE. STOP IT.

Listening to this via the awesome Big Read program (http://www.mobydickbigread.com/ - also available on iTunes). Just got to chapter 32 - a 30 minute digression on whales. Ah, Melville. I could only get through this by putting you on then doing chores at the same time.
