Exhaustively researched, “City of Champions” takes you back on a journey to a bygone era when high school sports ruled the roost. The story unspools like a TV documentary with rich characters from a tight-knit, diverse community of immigrants, the bedrock of our country. You can tell that Hank Gola put his heart and soul into this book and knew his subject intimately. It was a joy to read.
