Really interesting to read a book written by a deaf author, about deaf characters. Set in Maya village, all the characters can converse with each other in sign language, regardless of whether their deaf or not (and the dialogue is written in the grammar of sign language which is really fascinating!) but when Ismael has to flee his village, it becomes more difficult for him to communicate.
