The person posting the contract was offering two mil for her to be captured alive, and only one mil if brought in dead. Even the lower amount was more money than Jesse had ever seen on a contract before. The higher offer was enough money to set him up for life if he brought her in alive. Enough to allow him to retire on and put this deadly lifestyle behind him, if he so chose.

She wasn’t too embarrassed by her sister seeing her stark naked, but Megan catching her going down on Jesse was another story. His chest shook as a silent laugh rolled through him.

A relationship between them would never work. She knew better than anyone how broken she was in that department. Didn’t know the first thing about how it would even be possible. Two assassins falling for each other? Sounded like a recipe for certain disaster, and she didn’t want to be the reason he got injured or killed, and he’d always be in danger with her.

Strong fingers caught her chin. She jerked her gaze up to his, mouth going dry at the fire blazing in his eyes as he stared down at her. All the need she’d been suppressing suddenly exploded to life. She reached for his face at the same time he captured hers between his hands and brought his mouth down on hers.

Her loyalty spoke volumes about her character. Damn, she was something. A trained killer with a moral compass that was still functioning. That was a rarity in their line of work. He knew the pain of losing a sibling and would do whatever he could to make sure Amber never suffered it again. “We’ll protect them all. Together.”

As far as he knew, the contract on Amber was now down to him and one other hitter. Both of them pros, both former military. Hence the hefty bounty offered. She was good, Jesse mused as he studied her picture again. She was very good, but he was one of the best for a reason.
