this book is like a gritty indie film except you feel like you're actually there because you smell everything. i get such a crisp sense of the scenes and am floored by the way johnson uses internal rhymes. there's a tight rigour that feels really exciting to read.

I love a book that lays out the author's name like a poem in itself. What a gorgeous, intricate, vibrant book so far. Counting how many times I've burst into tears so far: at least 2.
