Experiment BL626 added a status update
The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith did not tank pre-revelation "this was in the UK only. In 3 months. On an unknown debut. In a saturated market. In a recession. That’s not tanking. It’s healthy."

Mandapanda I was reading about this somewhere yesterday. Must have been liberating for her to write under a pseudonym. I'd hate to have all the baggage of the HP series and all those expectations following me.

"It’s been picked up by most news outlets, and overnight it hit number 1 on Amazon and its sales went up 158,000%" Amazing!!

Experiment BL626 I know, right?! She sure as hell didn't write for the money. You know, I actually might try out this book. Literary fiction, I can't do. But crime fictions, I can.

If you look a little closer on Amazon, #1 is the Kindle edition, #2 is the Hardcover edition. Her book is dominating first and second places.

Ami I think I will try this too. I enjoy crime fictions. I read that J.K. Rowling wished that she could keep that pen name a lot longer. Like MandyM said, it must've been liberating for her. Too "bad" she only enjoyed it for few months. Because I guess now there will be another expectation for another books she releases with this name.

Experiment BL626 How did you know? The news only broke on Sunday.

Experiment BL626 Woah. Good catch. The mystery deepens.

Julio Genao great memory, skyla. that is a good catch.

Ami Yeah, definitely a great catch, Skyla!

Julio Genao that is so fucked.

that firm should be going to the mattresses, expecting a massive suit.

message 11: by Experiment BL626 (new)

Experiment BL626 I wonder if Rowling will sue. She's kind of a litigious author.

Though I think so many lawsuits are frivolous and should be tossed out, for that it might even be justified. I get that he thought he could trust the woman, but there's a reason he (presumably) signed a confidentiality agreement.

Julio Genao this one's legit. and serious. they'll settle out of court, surely.

confidentiality is the bread and butter of any law firm. this is a scandal.

message 14: by Dana (new)

Dana Cavallon Yeah, hard to imagine the publisher could object too much. They must know they're in the wrong. Settling makes sense.

message 15: by Julio (new)

Julio Genao the law firm, not the publisher. it was their lawyer who blabbed. to his wife's best friend. who then tweeted the deets like a complete moron.

like nobody would find out it was her.

message 16: by Dana (new)

Dana Cavallon Reading comprehension, I should try it sometime. ;) Though I have the excuse of attempting to do like five different things right now... :)

Sometimes I think I'm a year older than I really am.

message 20: by Dana (new)

Dana Cavallon I have no trouble remembering my birthday, but my age gets harder to remember the older I get. Not sure if that's the effect of age on memory or if I just don't want to believe I'm not 25 anymore. =D

I miss my twenties. I'm starting to go gray, and it makes me feel older than I am.

message 25: by Dana (new)

Dana Cavallon I'd say we should form a club, but what are the chances we'd remember it? ;p
