I am impressed with this book. Anyone interested in the movement to colonize West Africa with former slaves, a topic that is often glossed over in US history texts, should consider reading it when it's published this fall. Good blend of biography & religious/cultural history, sensitivity to the complicated threads of racism of missionaries, and attn to Gullah & W African belief & culture. Excellent writing too.

I'm loving this book so far.
