a bottle of vodka a day, hospitalized with the DTs, an enlarged liver---she just mentions in passing, does not dwell on this aspect of his life. a sympathetic rendering of the life of Alan Watts.

Scott Very interesting! I'm looking forward to finding out how it is, if it's good I'll definitely have to read this one. He was definitely a big influence on me, though I've figured out over the years that he definitely tended to slant things his way.

Laura Scott, it's a good read so far. i'm just on page 54, but have read about his childhood and introduction to Christmas Humphries. He ran in some pretty interesting circles! i was never really influenced by him because i didn't read his works, altho of course his name was big in our day--

Scott I think his "Way of Zen" was the first thing I'd read on that topic, though I read "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones" around the same time (this would have been in 1969) so I may be confused as to which one came first. But they were both big influences on me. Watts' books always had an undertone of humor to them for me, which always made me think he'd have been interesting to know.
