I like it. A good lead-in to mainly creepy books planned for two months. And Halloween actually factors into the plot. I think I may end up ranking this above The Crooked Hinge - which had an ending/explanation that let me down.

Minnoch makes a startling revelation! (Which had totally crossed my mind...hence the sarcastic exclamation point. By the way, I now know how to pronounce ‘Glamis’ properly! (Exclamation point NOT sarcastic, that time).)

I forgot to mention before, this book features a Locked Room Mystery. (Not that surprising considering the author.)

I’m not minding this - this is actually kind of fun, and 112 pages flew by. I was braced, based on some reviews/comments, for a lousy late novel of the demon-dull variety. But, other than the fact that there is too much dialogue, things are happening, there’s a story, I like the characters. This isn’t like Surfeit of Suspects, a late one by Bellairs, where I thought the author was tired and bored. This is fun.

This one is not universally loved. But it seems like a decent pick to lead off what will be a lot of creepy reading meant to carry me right through to All Hallow’s Eve. Maybe creepy Mysteries (with a few breaks) in September, and maybe heavy on Horror (but not just) in October. We’ll see.
