Definitely could have benefited from a strong editor. The amount of grammatical, mechanics, spelling, and usage errors is, frankly, astounding. There are good nuggets of information in the book. They are, however, difficult parse amongst the poor writing.

Kim Finally finished the book. My opinion did not change. This book needs a strong editor. The author writes like he speaks (and having sat through an online course, I have a fair sense of how he speaks). Although this can be an effective technique for writing an initial draft to get the words on paper, the text needs to be much more polished in order to be better understood by readers. Another issue is that the author refers to and references a couple of specific ventilators multiple times throughout the book. This works if one’s system happens to use one of those vents. However, if a system chooses a different ventilator (and in my area no EMS or HEMS system uses those vents) those passages are meaningless and detract from the information.

If another medic were to ask me which parts were worth reading , I would point them toward chapters two through five for the most usable information. I believe the author knows and understands ventilators very well; I don’t think this book imparts this knowledge in any practical, usable way. Overall, I did not find that this book enhanced my understanding of vents or the practice of managing patients on vents.
