I was lying down and letting Alexa read this chapter to me. Every mention of p became inadvertently amusing when read out loud.

I was wondering about Marvel's no-prizes after the previous bit, and then this chapter was about "value-maximising approaches" – I think they account for no-prizes and the role they play in Marvel's ongoing fictions better than intentionalism. I'm not sure I agree either that science fiction readers never treat realistic books as being about aliens – I have got myself through many a dull novel by doing just that!

I wonder how Stan Lee's no-prizes fit into this? Complete mistakes, explained away by readers in story terms, which then were regarded as fictionally true.

I think I'm just about following it.
