I think the author is so desperate to disprove the notion of a Eurocentric view of the world that he talks in circles in order to avoid the point that Europe had to have some effect on the world.
Acknowledging how Europe came to the global stage is not a negative thing.

Another read for ASU. It’s difficult to deal with the biased tones of the author in regards to history. We’ll see how it goes.

“The past may not change, but our history of it does. History—the narratives that historians write—is relevant to us because historians are influenced in their selection of what and how to write about the past by their engagement with issues and problems that confront us today.”
