I knew when I picked up this book, it would be good. Lages is my #1. I was warned that this would be a 'unique' read. When I get a book, I still study the cover, read the back, & info on a dust cover, forwards etc before digging in. Still this book is sublime. I wish, I could teach classes on his books. I savor them!! This book particularly is going to be amazing. Layers upon layers... It's hard to explain; LOVE IT!

This is the BEST book, I have read in years!! I finished it last night. But need a day or two to digest words before I leave a review. If you read ONE book this year; read Lages' An American Story~ This is my 2020 #1. If you remember Don McLean's American Pie? Imagine a epic ballad for 2020... imagine the best & worst of America in heartfelt prose. An amazing trip down memory lane, while looking in the review mirror
