"The protagonist in the story would be Rupert! He is the protagonist because he is the main hero who saves the day and goes through all of the exciting changes and events. For example, he decides one day to become a witches appurtenance but little does he know that the witch is a kid just like him. They end up becoming best friends and they save Rupert's class from the dreaded Mrs. Fabblenacker."

I would say that the conflict in the story would be spread apart within the book. Rupert is having trouble with his teacher and is trying to survive her class. You don't see the conflict at first but once you get into the book the main conflict becomes more visible as you read on. The main conflict occurs once Rupert and Sandy (the witch) figure out that Rupert's teacher Ms. Fabbernaker is really the head witch.
