Here's a link to an informative and thought-provoking essay by Stephanie McCarter about how translators of Ovid have glossed over the Met's many rape scenes, colluded with the rapist or made it seem consensual sex when in the original it is clearly rape. All editions I'm consulting are faulty of bias/error. I find it crucial to be mindful and critical of this issue.

I finally mustered the willpower it takes to embark on this giant. Read the preface and translator's notes attentively. Wondering how many other translations I'll have to consult besides this to satisfy my Translation Comparison Obsession. Maybe Charles Martin's? I wish my Latin wasn't so basic and I could just read the original.
