Read a little bit last night. The pacing has improved. I really liked the dining table scene, where Edward is taking on everyone's thoughts and feelings. This was a great way to get to know the Cullen family more deeply then books 1-4.

I have clawed my way to page 134 but can not go on. I can't get past the slow pacing (in spots), which could have been alleviated with some line/copy editing.
I wish I had the word doc so that I could edit/enjoy the story. Sadly I won't be wasting any more time on this one.

Between last night and the car wash this morning, I got in a few more pages. I thought Edward was an old smart guy, totally realized he was pulling answers from teachers' heads. Missed that in the first four. The pacing is good here. If I stopped reading early on, this book would have gotten 2 stars, but if I can get through book 2, then I can get through this. Looking like a 4 to 5 star now.

The heat of the night woke me up, so I read a few pages. I got to the car crash in the school parking lot and the hospital afterward. The writing/editing was much better here. I also really enjoyed Edward's struggle to hear Charlie's thoughts.

I can't tell if I'm struggling because-
I can't stand Edward as a character,
His desire to kill is repetitive (say it once and move on)
The late hour I start reading
I'm used to reading non-fiction
I'm too old for this sh**
Still pressing on
