I know cis people like to do the 'they weren't trans, they just pretended bc of limitations of their time' to pretend that trans people haven't always existed, but this character has been living as a man for at least 40 years. I find 'trans' is more believable than 'cis person able to live for decades being constantly misgendered'.

Oof, to me this reads as a group of trans men being outed with their deadnames, which is not great at all! And then there's the repeatedly mentioned character who seems to be a trans woman who is constantly misgendered :/
