The number of times Sicarius says “huh” makes me want to punch him in the face.
I would even prefer “hmm.” Why does it have to be “huh”
I’m sure that the “Huh”s are meant to make him sound thoughtful, but still emotionless, but having it repeated that many times ends up making him sound dumb more than anything else.

I feel like this might’ve been written better in 1st person for Amaranthe and 3rd person for the other perspective (aka when we‘re with the emperor).
There are so many characters who feel like they have no personality bc we can’t see inside their heads (the 3rd person is only in Amaranthes pov)
1st person would’ve been smoother so we could get more emotional/personal descriptions of other characters
