After seeing a fin whale - the second largest mammal on earth - and visiting the Maine Maritime Museum to learn how schooners were once built, this book becomes much more poignant. Fin whales were once hunted to the point of extinction for their blubber, and the large ships that sailed off Northern New England's coasts were massively commercial undertakings.
