Oh no. It's actually real critique.
I'm at the part where (view spoiler)[ the Patran soldiers showed up, just as Aimeric's father & co are taking Laurent for treachery. (hide spoiler)].
Don't get me wrong, I like the story line and I appreciate Laurent's forward thinking and his planning, but the timing of it all (the Vaskians raiding the camp where Laurent and Damen were held, the Patrans showing up just on time)... It's a bit too much.

Oh, that. I agree. (view spoiler)[I think she did it that way to showcase all the point/counterpoint scheming of the uncle and Laurent in a way that took up as few pages as possible but communicated its complexity. Otherwise you'd have a much longer book and it would end up focused on the political situation and power grab rather than Laurent and Damen. It's not realistic, for sure. (hide spoiler)]

Okay I'm glad I'm not alone. Almost done with this. Liked it a lot but book #1 was my favorite.
