This page has a picture of Hinali's first needle felted animal, a portrait of her dog, which is more clearly the sort of needle felting most people learn but is still better than anything I could currently do without the help of a pattern.

I flipped back to see if the kitten instructions included wool amounts, rather than just colors. Nope, no amounts. I imagine a LOT of wool was used (and trimmed).

Lol. You know those "how to draw" books that are all Step 1: Draw an oval, Step 2: Draw some lines, Step 3: Voila, now you have a finished face? This Q&A portion reminds me a little of that.

The question asks about tips for when you can't get cats' faces right, even when working from reference photos. The answer, basically: "I use photos of cats. They're very helpful."

I bought this more for the pictures and possibility of flashes of usable advice than because I thought it would have any projects I'd be willing to attempt.

The advice about using paint brush bristles for whiskers seems promising. I also like the advice for fur cutting but doubt I'll be doing anything like that for a while. I haven't even tried flocking yet.

Was this written using materials from interviews with the artist, Hinali, about her process? Because that's what it reads like - Hinali is repeatedly referred to in the third person.

Holy crap, Hinali had only been needle felting for five years when this book was written. Even if I'm still felting five years from now, I doubt my creations will look anywhere near this amazing.
