1st chapter of the book discusses the humoral medical practice used by hippocrates wherein the nature of sickness in humans was a result of ones “humors” being out of balance & treatment meant eating or acting in a way that would bring your body back into a state of balance. This practice was homeopathic and sought to treat one’s condition of living as opposed to an individual illness

The book gets into Galen’s practice of humoral medicine & how his practices differed from hippocrates. Galen was focused more on medical education through text rather than through patient/physician interaction in the way that hippocrates practiced.
