Not certain if you're listening or visual for A Promised Land. I bought the book and the library delivered the audio on my overdrive the same week. Decided to begin by listening. Hearing President Obama narrates, for me, is like having coffee and cocoa together. His tone and pace are as though he has no idea how long his book is. I click the 1.5 and it's like Stephen Colbert says, ”you sound like you talking normally”. His cadence he like a leisurely walk. Super pleasant. Like listening to an old friend

I got A Promised Land on both Kindle and Audible, but I've been listening almost exclusively. I definitely agree with you on how comforting the President's reading performance is, I'm sure if I put it on while in bed I'd easily be lulled to sleep (:

There was a section I listened to last night where then Senator Obama had been mobbed after taking his daughters to the Zoo. In the car ride home he mimics his eldest daughters voice as she advises him on creating an alias, it was hilarious and I just can't imagine the written version carrying the same impact.
