It pains me at the moment to think that there are other books which I must also read. So sublime.

Went back and re-read Bonar’s notes first 22 psalms slowly and carefully, taking time to follow references. This book is electrifying me. Compared to other commentaries on the Psalms, it’s very sparse—but so very forcefully on target. If what I’ve read so far is any indication of the quality of the whole, I may never not be reading this book. Utterly absorbed.

Start of this book is very promising. Found out about it because of a passing mention in Spurgeon’s autobiography. I have not had such high hopes for a book in setting out to read it, possibly ever. The Christological approach to the Psalms that Augustine and Bonhoeffer held is rich with practical comfort and insight—and it’s woefully under-explored as compared with other approaches to the Psalms.
