The author struggles greatly so far with matching the tone and personality of the existing characters (Artemis, Butler; Mulch). Each time a pre-existing character appears I'm reluctant to continue reading as they are so far from who they should be. The chapter on trolls expanded existing cannon quite a fair bit though in a way that was pleasant to read. The illustrations are beautiful as well.
