This is second reading for me. I read it some twenty years ago. Reading it now, in the middle of an actual plague, I am amazed at Camus' insight into the psychological roller coaster a society travels due to the fear and isolation imposed on it. Chapter by chapter, Camus takes us into the thoughts of his characters. An existentialist's emotional distance allows for a truer portrayal of his characters' mindsets.
