The subtitle is 'A story of Colombia' so I shouldn't criticize its length. But Davis's story telling weaving in and out drug wars, Spanish conquest, civil war, etc. became a bit too ponderous, redundant, and self-reflective for me.
If I had more leisure time and fewer (better) competing books, I would have finished the remaining 200 pages. I did enjoy his research into Humboldt's travels to Colombia and S. America.
