Reading Gilbert is so hard because he is continually breaking your heart. His poems are so emotionally intense you can only read two or three a day and you'll find yourself turning back again to the same poems, reaching into more pain, but also beauty. So much of it.

Le agradezco a la vida el haberme puesto a Gilbert en el camino. Y a Michiko. Este libro ya se convirtió en uno de los más amados de mi vida. No me lo despegaré del corazón jamás. Aunque me duela tanto leerlo.

Generalmente los poetas cerebrales son admirables en cuanto a la forma, la técnica, las ideas, pero rara vez en el aspecto emotivo. Gilbert sí llega a ese nivel sin ningún demérito de la tremenda elegancia, la fineza de la forma, el afiladísimo brillo de las ideas. Es un poeta con mayúsculas.

Gilbert is an immense poet. A truly important one. Intelligent, elegant, deep, emotive, all of that combined. Fantastic.
