It had been too long...
I felt the need to return to Lacan as an insistent taping on my shoulder from an old and compelling friend seemingly always one step away.
And no better way to return than following the always enlightening and clear minded Zupančič.

I am embarrassed to admit that I was almost halfway through this book before I realized I had already read it. Has that happened to anyone else?? Maybe I should check GR first before I start any new book to see if I've already read it? Am I really at that stage of old? Embarrassing fer sure...

Heading into the final extended chapter, and you can tell Zupančič is all warmed up to dive into the actual meat and potatoes of her argument. She has taken us through the boulevards and side streets of Kant's ethics, where we ended up in what seems like a cul-de-sac of non-optimal actions and ways to (honestly, ethically) be. She has sprinkled Lacan along the way, but I predict the deep dive is imminent.

The chapter on evil in literature (Dangerous Liaisons and Don Juan) really brought the previous themes and arguments home through example and clear summation!

This last chapter on Kant's "logic of illusion" and "postulates" was a bit rough to get my head around tbh. It's one place where I think Zupančič muddied things more than necessary by bringing in the flowers/vase/mirror image and trying to tie it to the rest of the chapter.

This takes careful reading, but so far Zupančič's writing is very clear and engaging. Most likely I will never read Kant himself, but I do feel I am getting a solid grasp through Zupančič's mind, as to his ideas on ethics and freedom, and how these relate to similar concepts in Lacan (some of which I have read in Seminar VII). I find myself stopping and pondering concepts and applications a lot - always a good sign!
