vastly interesting (especially the historical parts), the idyllic descriptions are also rather morbid when one realises that just a few decades after the author's childhood and youth, East Prussia and the lives of its peoples would be destroyed by the horrors of WWII and its aftermath (but I am not liking the book as much as I did when I was younger, too much emphasis on the "joys" of trophy hunting).
