As the title suggests, this woman throughout her childhood is referred to constantly as 'ugly' by her mother. Yet nearly every person she has described so far has been put-down by their appearances. One of her sister's is four-eyes, Eastman is ugly, one of her sister's is called 'Blackie' because of her too-dark skin colour. Seriously! Finding it kind of hard to sympathise here...
