Apparently this is a spinoff of Souls of Chicago, which would have been nice to know before I was almost 1/3 through this book.

Jeremy's boss is featured in Book 3 of Souls of Chicago.

Florence . I hate when a series is a spin off and it’s not mentioned anywhere! It would be so easy to mention that it’s spin off in the blurb, like that we would know to read the previous books before! 🙄

Shelba Yeah, easy enough to put it in the foreword, if not the end of the blurb. I only really clued in because they started talking about thr boss's husband, who he met on an assignment when he was hired to guard his husband's rockstar brother.

It's not as bad as some books, where you feel completely lost and like you should know all the side characters only to realize that the series is a spinoff of a spinoff of a spinoff, that you apparently should have known as part of the author's hive mind or something, lol.

Florence . Atleast it doesn’t seem to be too bad! Hahah right! I hate the ones that are like that! It’s like... how am I meant to know I was supposed to know all of these people and why do I need to know them, they have no effect on the book i’m reading lol

I hate the ones where they never tell you it’s a spin off and then you read more books by the author cause you enjoyed them and you realize you read the spin off before the original series and it fucks up most of the series plotlines for you because they were all discussed in the spin off. It’s like, you really should have provided me with a reading order here 😂

There’s one author, K. Webster, that I reached out to after reading Lust Marry Kill, thinking it was a standalone, but it was a spin off of a series. She since posted a reading map on her site which I found a bit overwhelming, so I’ve been completely avoiding her books until I can figure out how to approach them, lol.

Yeah I looked at that map too, it looks way too complicated for me haha It makes it so hard to approach a series when there is so many books that could be linked to it! Sometimes I don't want to read 20 books to get to the one I wanted to read lol

Shelba Yeah, that’s a bit too much of a reading commitment for me. And often, the main series doesn’t interest me, but the spin off series does, which is always a dilemma. But even more annoying are the ones that authors are like, can be read as a standalone, and you read it, and it most definitely can’t.... at least not without you being half lost for half the book, lol.
