Hey friends, it's time to back up your shelves again. Goodreads has started deleting books from the recent Winter Wonderland giveaway stating they aren't published works but instead "newsletter bait". I'm pissed. Reviews just gone not to mention screwing with my challenge numbers, again.

Looks like Hailey Turner requested hers be taken down and the domino fell into all the others that are only available as freebies and not out on Amazon. I'm really annoyed.
Do you think they'll remove them again if we manually add them back?

Renee, I don't know. I know in 2014 when all the shit went down with Sterek and other fanfic we'd add them back and they'd be taken down over and over again until it just went away. That was also author driven but more out of fear they were going to get in trouble for writing about characters they didn't own the rights to.This really makes no sense. It's a book written by an author so we should be able to read it, review it and track it.
I wish sometimes the authors would remember this site is for us not them.
And yeah, what Amanda said. I've seen some back but I am not in the mood to try to review again.
I’m stuck on how the lesser known authors get affected by this domino effect. How are they meant to gain readership if us readers aren’t sharing and talking about their stuff on here? So ridiculous. It shouldn’t matter if a book was bought, free, borrowed from a fricken library—if we’ve read it we should be able to shelve it and rate/review it at our leisure.

This is a site for the readers and what they read! And Meags is right! It shouldn’t matter where we got the book from - if a person doesn’t want to sign up for a newsletter (and rightly cancel as per their prerogative) then they are missing out. Don’t punish the fans. Or don’t put out freebies. It remains to be seen if I will read more from Turner despite being a top notch writer. Whoever started this stupid crusade has put a wrench in authors trying to get their stuff out to be seen, promoted, and read!
