I loved this book. Fantasy books that imagine language or books or stories are literally magic are a dime a dozen, but this one still felt original. I liked the characters and their complicated relationships. The language was great, and the story-telling/scholarly writing frame(s) worked for me. There were regularly similes that made me stop and appreciate them.
