This book is so good. But it’s a slow one. One minute I’m thinking: I’m stuck in this small maternity ward during a pandemic (Spanish flu). The next I’ve realized I’ve read twenty pages without breathing maybe and all the while thinking there’s not a whole lot different for labouring women. The whiskey, I suppose, no one offered me whiskey. It’s fascinating. Scary. Slow and all consuming.
