I am liking the book a lot more. I'm reading more dialogue and it's getting better. Emma is starting to turn on her charm with match making. She really wants Harriet and this guy, Mr. Elton, to get together and ditch the lame farmer Mr. Martin. I think it's wrong that Emma interferes with Harriet's love life. Shouldn't she be concerned about her own?

This chapter didn't have much plot to it. It mostly talked about Mr. and Mrs. Knightly and the way they acted. They described Mr. Knightly as a kind hearted and genuinely great man with a very ill temper. He constantly is upset by the littlest of things. Mrs. Knightly on the other hand has no kind of a temper. She is a caring and devoted wife and looks up to her husband. Why does she look up to him that way?

In this section of the book Emma and Harriet are talking about marriage. Harriet is really excited about the idea of marriage. She thinks it's an amazing experience. Emma doesn't think so. Emma wants to grow up to be an independent woman. Strong and smart with everyone treating her the same as someone who is married. She doesn't mind being unmarried. I think this is cool. Why does she want to be single though?

I'm finally up to chapter 9 in this big book. In the previous chapter, chapter 8, some things happened. Though it was about Mr. Knightly and Emma's conversation about Harriet's rejection to the proposal of Mr. Martin. Mr. Knightly feels like they're perfect and that Emma had no right to influence Harriet's judgement. Emma disagrees. I wish Harriet had accepted. Does Emma know how much of influence she is on Harriet?

This book is starting to get really cool. Mr.Martin, the farmer, sent a letter to Harriet to propose. I thought this was really sweet. She looks for Emma for advice. Emma doesn't really care, but prefers Harriet go with Mr.Elton. So Harriet decides to reject the proposal and she is upset. Emma tries to cheer her up with the idea of being with Mr.Elton. I wonder what would have happened if she accepted the proposal?

I like this book a bit more and more every chapter. In chapter 6, Emma and Mr. Elton are admiring Harriet's natural beauty. What he doesn't know is that Emma is trying to pair them. She points out all of Harriet's glowing characteristics. Then they talk about Emma creating a portrait of Harriet. Mr. Elton sees no flaws meanwhile the others can find little mistakes. Does Elton really love her or is he just mesmerized?

This book is getting really interesting. In chapter 5 Mrs. Weston and Mr. Woodhouse are having a vivid discussion on whether or not Emma and Harriet are good for each other. Mr. Woodhouse believes Harriet is just like a lost dog and praises Emma too much. Mrs. Weston believes she is simply admiring her and learning more about her. I agree with Mrs. Weston, Mr. Woodhouse is being preposterous. Why does he care?

Emma and Harriet are becoming closer friends which is really nice. As exercise they are taking walks together instead of Emma and Mrs. Weston Harriet describes this boy she has seen and Emma is simply against her having feelings for him. She claims that she doesn't want her with him because they are of different social classes. Why does Emma feel like she need to include herself? I think she shouldn't care at all.

I am starting to kind of like the book better. It's starting to come out of the background knowledge stage and getting to the exposition. Her and her father have a get-together with other members of their social circle and have dinner. Emma is mesmerized by Harriet, a girl in boarding school with an unknown parentage. She is short, plump, with blue eyes and light hair. When will she describe an actual conflict?

In my opinion this book is giving too much back round knowledge. I understand it’s to help understand, but that is my opinion. In chapter 2 it talks about the history of Miss Taylor's new husband. It talks about him marrying an upper class woman. Within 3 years of marriage she passed and left behind a son to Mr. Weston. The child was taken away to the widows in laws. I feel bad for him but also happy he found love.

The book isn't as interesting as I hoped it would be. The intro isn't really an attention grabber, but I see it can it getting better as I go along. Emma's sister and her governess, Miss Taylor, both got married and now Emma is upset. She is alone with her dad. She also feels like she is a great match maker and wants to continue doing it. I think she isn't as great a match maker as she thinks. Has she ever done this?
