He is trying to make a fire and just can't. He remembered from science class how to make a fire. The sparks went into the bark and he blew on it. The sparks finally grew bigger.

He finally figured out how to catch fish with his bow and arrow. At night he was wishing he could just end this and die. He started to think to trap the fish and keep the fish fresh.
