The writers were heavily into Mormonism. They held maybe every position possible in the church and temple. She was a teacher at Brigham Young. While on his mission in Florida, someone challenged their son to read the Bible for himself. He came to the truth and challenged his parents. They came to the truth, realizing that they were enjoying the ease of checking boxes and living moral lives, when the truth of the Bible taught differently. They lay out all kinds of errors with Mormonism in the book. Really good things. I was aware of many, but not all. They also talk about the stance of the church on all the inconsistencies and whatever throughout. Their sons and a couple others founded Adam's Road Ministry to tour the US and teach that Jesus is enough and preach salvation through trust in Jesus Christ.
