No point in recommending this, although I really love it. Its a me-book, obviously.

Re-reading. Unbelievable: I read this FOUR years ago. How time flies by.

Sandinista! Go and show your bruise before it fades away! Report! Call someone! Don't wait for the lazy-ass school-system to be conscious and righteous on its own! Speak to Alecia's mother at least. Hurry, girl, and stow away that silly gun!

An unforeseeable miracle has happened: Sandinista's personality and her story have begun to grow on me. I happen to enjoy the book!

The book suffers from severe metaphor and adjective overload and from tragic coolness. The style is intentionally distractive, because the narrator has ADD and her POV is supposed to show it. I am not sure yet if the story can hold my attention long enough.

Why is it a "you"-book and wouldn't be an "others"-book?

- It's completely character-driven- The stream-of-consciousness style writing is very beautiful (crystal-candied with intricate, impossible metaphors and random side-tracks), but also hard to get into and hard to glue your attention to (The heroine has ADD and constantly repeats after her bullying teacher in her head: Attention, Sandinista, pay attention!)
- It's pretty dark, snarky and at times hopeless
- It touches religious subjects and walks a fine line between pointing out paedophilic priests and hypocrites on one side and comfort in tradition and belief on the other
- The low average rating has to be there for a reason.
But I want a paper copy.
