Believe the people who say this book is not worth your time. I made it to page 84 before giving up. Like many others here, I loved most of Tepper's novels through the 90s, but this is poorly edited, poorly written in some places (in ways that could have been fixed by a decent editor) and just weirdly confused and lifeless.
