It's getting better. Still quite clumsy prose and it doesn't help being written in present tense but at least there's a story going on beyond "3 teens run away". I appreciate that the author isn't trying to create a mystery out of nowhere and is willing to let the reader in on the truth even while the characters are oblivious. Still laying it on thick with the abortion parable.

Oh God this book is written in a terrible manner. I can feel my brain melting. I can just about get through it by reading at breakneck speed, not lingering too much on the awkward prose, and getting out before I catch a breath. Why am I reading this? As a penance maybe? It's not quite bad enough where I consider it a chore but it's still pretty terrible.
