Just finished the chapter on the Civil War and Reconstruction as it pertains to American Evangelicalism, and wow! Prescient today, I had no idea how north/south white evangelical “reconciliation” led to deepening of Jim Crow. And how did southern biblicism push abolitionists to liberal Protestantism? Now I know.
